2 years sought for MC Mong
During the rapper’s sixth hearing at the Seoul Central District Court on Monday, prosecutors said the rapper deliberately evaded his mandatory military service by deferring service six times and having 12 teeth pulled by five dentists.
“MC Mong deferred his military service at exactly the time when he had his teeth pulled,” prosecutors said, going on to request a two-year sentence for the rapper.
At the hearing, MC Mong testified that he didn’t know that it was illegal to defer his military service by having teeth removed, adding that in any case that wasn’t what he had done.
“Some people have asked why I’ve continued to pursue the case, instead of just going to the Army,” the rapper said, adding that he is not fighting to preserve his reputation or regain his popularity, but believes that he is innocent.
“The situation I am in is so depressing and I feel like I’m a criminal. But I’m not a liar,” he said.
He added that he will accept the judge’s ruling, but that he hopes the judge will rule in his favor. The judge is expected to rule on April 11.

MC몽 징역2년 구형, 재판 6번만에 첫 폭풍눈물 “거짓말쟁이 아냐”
그간 모든 공판에서 담담한 태도로 재판에 임했던 MC몽이 최후 변론을 하다 결국 눈물을 쏟았다.
가수 MC몽(본명 신동현)의 고의 병역기피 의혹을 둘러싼 마지막 공판이 3월 28일 오후 2시 서울 서초구 서초동에 위치한 서울중앙지방법원 519호 법정에서 열렸다.
이날 검찰은 피고인 MC몽에게 징역 2년을 구형했다. 검찰은 “피고인은 자신이 입영 연기나 시기, 사유 등을 몰랐다고 주장하지만 이를 인정하기 어렵다”면서 “2년여동안 총 6차례나 연기했는데 이를 전혀 몰랐다는 것은 믿기 힘들다”고 밝혔다.
MC몽 역시 피고인 심문에서 그간 참아왔던 억울함을 쏟아내는 듯 다소 격앙된 어조로 검찰의 심문에 답했다.
MC몽은 최후 변론에서 “이 사건이 터질 때만 해도 살기가 힘들 정도였다”며 “입대를 연기한 부분은 정말 몰랐지만 변명할 여지가 없는 것 같다. 하지만 아닌 것은 아니라고 말한 것 밖에 없다”고 말문을 열었다.
이어 “많은 분들에게 실망감을 준 것은 가슴 아프고 죄송하다”며 “인기를 끌고, 돈과 명예를 회복하기 위해 싸운 게 아니다. 내가 너무나 한심스럽다”고 말했다.
MC몽은 “난 거짓말쟁이는 아니다. 어떤 결정이든 달게 받겠다”고 말하며 울먹거렸다. MC몽은 결국 참아왔던 눈물을 쏟아내며 법정을 나섰다.
한편 MC몽에 대한 선고 공판은 4월 11일 오후 2시 같은 곳에서 열린다.
