Ancient texts looted by France are home at last

Plundered by the French military 145 years ago, and the object of two decades of diplomatic wrangling between Paris and Seoul, the first batch of 297 volumes of Korea’s ancient royal protocol arrived at Incheon International Airport on April 14. The 75 volumes were transported in five specially made crates that controlled temperature and humidity. The other books will come in three shipments by May 27. [YONHAP]

프랑스군이 145년 전에 약탈해갔고 지난 20여년 동안 한국과 프랑스의 외교적 분쟁의 대상이었던 외규장각 도서 297권 중 1차분 75권이 4월 14일 인천공항에 도착했다. 이 도서들은 온도와 습도를 조절하는 특수 상자 5개에 포장돼 실려왔다. 다른 도서들은 5월 27일까지 세 번에 걸쳐 나뉘어 수송될 것이다. [연합]
