US beat Canada 3-2 in OT in women’s ice hockey worlds final

ZURICH - Hilary Knight’s goal in overtime keyed the United States’ 3-2 victory over Canada on Monday for its third straight women’s world ice hockey championship title.

Knight, a University of Wisconsin standout, scored the decisive goal 7:48 into the extra period for her tournament-leading fifth goal. The U.S. has now won four of the past five world titles, though Olympic champion Canada leads 9-4 overall. The two countries have met in every worlds final since the tournament debuted in 1990.

Canada forced overtime with a strong attacking effort, shooting 23 times in the third period.
