Messi gives Barcelona 2-0 win

MADRID - Lionel Messi lit up an ill-tempered Champions League semifinal on Wednesday with two goals in the last 15 minutes to give Barcelona a 2-0 victory over 10-man Real Madrid.
Barcelona dominated throughout but only managed to break through after Madrid midfielder Pepe was red-carded in the 61st minute at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.
Madrid coach Jose Mourinho was sent to the stands for protesting the decision, which left Madrid playing with 10 men against Barcelona for the fourth straight game.
Messi guided substitute Ibrahim Afellay’s cross through the legs of goalkeeper Iker Casillas to open the scoring in the 76th minute and with three minutes to play, the elusive Argentina forward brilliantly ghosted past three defenders before clipping the ball past Casillas for his 52nd goal of the season, and 11th in the Champions League.
“We came here with a lot of problems, we had four players from the second team on the bench but we controlled the ball,” said Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola, whose team was without injured midfielder Andres Iniesta.
“Real Madrid didn’t create any opportunities in the first half and to do this in this stadium in the Champions League semifinal is very difficult.”
“If I say to [the referee] and to UEFA what I think and feel, my career ends today,” Mourinho said. “One day I hope to get an answer to the question: why?”
It was Barcelona’s first win in three games between the bitter rivals in 12 days after a 1-1 league draw and a 1-0 extra-time Copa del Rey final defeat.
Madrid’s defense in Tuesday’s return leg will be short-handed with Pepe and Sergio Ramos both suspended. Ramos was booked for a foul on Messi in the 53rd minute.
Mourinho described progress to the final as “mission impossible” as he continued to bemoan his side’s treatment by the referee.
If Barcelona does close out the victory, Manchester United is the most likely team to be waiting in the May 28 Wembley final after the English side’s 2-0 win at Schalke on Tuesday.

“A team that has nine European Cups never gives up on a series, I’m convinced of that,” Guardiola said. “We played a very good game. We controlled their counterattacks and their aerial game, which is very dangerous.”
Messi’s 179th goal moved him ahead of Josep Samitier to trail only Cesar Rodriguez (235) and Laszlo Kubala (196) in goals scored for the club.
“At 23 .?.?. That’s incredible,’’ Guardiola said. Both coaches had stoked tensions on the eve of the match, with Guardiola launching an expletive-filled attack against Mourinho, and the ill-will spilled over into the match.
Substitute Barcelona keeper Jose Manuel Pinto was the first to be sent off for a red card at halftime as the two teams skirmished while leaving the field.
Pinto’s sending off left Barcelona without a reserve keeper as the frustration of being unable to exploit 70 percent of the possession in the first 45 minutes seemed to boil over.
Pepe was then harshly sent off after clashing with Daniel Alves as he lunged for a ball and Mourinho was sent to the stands for sarcastically clapping and showing a thumbs up to the fourth official.
Tensions finally boiled over in the 40th minute when Madrid defender Alvaro Arbeloa was booked after a tussle with Pedro Rodriguez, while Alves was shown a yellow card for a push on Angel di Maria.
As the second-half minutes ticked down, Madrid looked set to succeed in frustrating Barca but Pepe’s expulsion complicated things. Mourinho took a seat in the first row behind the dugout and began scribbling instructions that were passed to assistant coach Aitor Karanka as he looked to reshuffle his team in the absence of his defensive lynchpin.
But there was no stopping Messi, whose second goal was a wonderful example of his trademark darting run and finish although the defenders could have done a better job to stop him, even if it meant giving away a free kick.
Madrid stumbled against Barcelona again at home, where it hasn’t beaten Barcleona in nearly three years.

독자적인 언어와 문화를 유지해 온 카탈루냐는 1931년 스페인으로부터 자치권을 부여받았다. 그러나 줄기차게 스페인으로부터 분리 독립을 원했다. 1939년 스페인 내전의 승자 프랑코에게 ‘두 개의 스페인’은 없었고, 카탈루냐의 자치권은 박탈됐다. 카탈루냐의 언어와 문화는 탄압받았다. 오직 한 곳. FC 바르셀로나의 홈구장 누 캄프만이 카탈루냐의 해방구였다. 이곳에서만 카탈루냐의 언어를 외치고 카탈루냐의 깃발을 휘두를 수 있었다. FC 바르셀로나는 반독재와 카탈루냐 독립의 아이콘이었다. 그들에게 중앙정부가 있는 마드리드의 축구팀은 타도해야 할 목표였다. 프랑코는 레알 마드리드의 가장 굳건한 서포터였다.
1943년 6월 13일 마드리드에서 열린 코파 델 레이(국왕컵) 준결승 2차전. 레알 마드리드는 더 강한 팀으로 평가받은 FC 바르셀로나에 11-1로 대승했다. 하지만 경기 전 스페인 국가보안부장이 FC 바르셀로나의 탈의실에 들어와 선수들을 협박한 사실이 드러났다. 경기는 무효가 됐다. 53년 레알 마드리드가 FC 바르셀로나에 입단하려던 아르헨티나의 축구 영웅 알프레도 디 스테파뇨를 가로챈 것도 중앙정부 덕이었다. 디 스테파뇨가 뛴 11년 동안 마드리드는 다섯 차례나 유럽을 제패했다. 바르셀로나의 원한은 깊어만 갔다.
75년 프랑코 독재가 막을 내렸다. 그래도 카탈루냐와 카스티야 지역의 갈등은 그대로였다. FC 바르셀로나와 레알 마드리드의 대립도 더욱 날카로워졌다. 이런 상황 속에 두 명의 ‘루이스’가 팬들의 가슴에 불을 질렀다. 91년부터 96년까지 레알 마드리드에서 활약한 루이스 엔리케와 95년부터 2000년까지 FC 바르셀로나에서 뛴 루이스 피구가 주인공이다.
엔리케는 레알 마드리드의 재계약 제안을 거부하고 FC 바르셀로나로 이적했다. 피구는 FC 바르셀로나에서 레알 마드리드로 이적했다. 피구가 FC 바르셀로나 원정경기에 출전하는 날 팬들은 예수를 팔아넘긴 ‘가롯 유다’에 비유해 ‘JUDAS’라고 적힌 종이로 관중석을 뒤덮었다. 피구가 코너킥을 찰 때는 동전과 병, 돼지 머리가 그라운드로 날아들었다.
잠시 꿈같은 시간이 지나간 적은 있다. 2008년 스위스·오스트리아에서 공동 개최된 유럽축구선수권대회에서 FC 바르셀로나의 사비·이니에스타와 레알 마드리드의 이케르 카시야스·세르히오 라모스 등이 힘을 합쳐 우승했다. 분위기는 지난해 남아공 월드컵까지 이어졌다. ‘유로 2008’ 멤버를 다시 내세운 스페인은 처음으로 월드컵을 차지했다. 하지만 거기까지였다. 바르셀로나에서 휘날리던 스페인 국기는 월드컵이 끝나자마자 사라졌다. 독립을 외치는 시위가 계속됐다.
28일(한국시간) 레알 마드리드의 홈 구장 산티아고 베르나베우에서 벌어진 2010~2011 유럽축구연맹(UEFA) 챔피언스리그 준결승 1차전. 레알 마드리드와 FC 바르셀로나 선수들은 레드카드 2장, 옐로카드 5장을 나눠 받는 혈전을 벌였다. 양 팀의 파울 수는 무려 46개였다. 메시가 2골을 넣은 FC바르셀로나가 2-0으로 승리했다. 하지만 아직 끝난 것이 아니다. 다음 달 4일 FC바르셀로나의 홈 구장 누 캄프에서 2차전이 열린다. 지난 17일부터 시작된 ‘엘 클라시코’ 4연전의 마지막이자 올 시즌 최후의 대결이다.
