[Letters] Nuclear energy has a more successful road ahead

I read the April 28 Korea JoongAng Daily viewpoint, “The end of nuclear power,” with disbelief.

The author completely neglected the cost and safety accomplishments of the South Korean nuclear sector. I witnessed the rapid development and learning curve during my sojourn as a startup test engineer on the Yeonggwang nuclear plant in South Jeolla.

South Korea has consistently improved budget and schedule performance for their plants which contributed to their becoming the prime contractor for the Braka units in the UAE.

South Korea has shown that standardization allows for improved safety while controlling cost and schedule. Nuclear energy has a longer and more successful road ahead than the viewpoint author claims.
