N. Korean leader Kim Jong-il visits China: source

North Korean leader Kim Jong-il was visiting China Friday, a Seoul government source said, contradicting earlier reports that his heir-apparent son, Jong-un, traveled to the country.

The trip, if confirmed, will be the leader's third in slightly over one year. He had visited China in early May and late August last year.

It has yet to be confirmed whether the 69-year-old leader was accompanied on the trip by his heir-apparent son, the source said, speaking on the condition of anonymity.

The name of the junior Kim was not on an official list of about 70-member entourage, said the source.[Yonhap]

당초 북한의 2인자인 김정은 당 중앙군사위원회 부위원장의 단독 중국방문으로 알려졌던 방중인사가 김정일 국방위원장인 것으로 확인됐다. 그러나 아직 김정은의 동행방문 여부는 확인되지 않았다. 북한 소식통은 "현재로선 김정일 단독방문으로 보이지만, 김정은이 동행했을 가능성도 배제할 수 없다"고 말했다.

김정일의 중국방문은 지난해 8월 베이징을 방문한 뒤 9개월만에 전격적으로 이뤄지는 것이다. 당시 김정일은 후진타오 중국 국가주석에게 폭격기 30여 대를 달라고 했다 거절당하자 곧바로 북한 귀국길에 올랐었다.

김정일을 태운 특별열차는 이날 새벽 투먼(圖們)에 도착한 뒤 오전 헤이룽장(黑龍江)성 무단장(牧丹江)에 도착했다. 중국 내 소식통에 따르면 김정일은 홀리데이인 호텔에 머무르고 있는 것으로 알려졌다. 현재 이 호텔 주변에는 삼엄한 경비가 펼쳐지고 있다. 이후 행선지는 확인되지 않고 있다.
