2011.6.17 Weekend Picks: Olympic football qualifiers* Korea vs. Jordan
* Seoul World Cup Stadium, Seoul
* Sunday, 3 p.m.
This is the first step for the Korean U-23 team’s hopes to reach the 2012 Olympics. Head coach Hong Myung-bo announced the 23-man squad last Thursday.
Korea will not be able to use three important midfielders - Koo Ja-cheol, Kim Bo-kyung and Nam Tae-hee - because their clubs refused to release them. But the team will try to fill the void with four senior team members - striker Ji Dong-won, midfielder Yoon Bitgaram, defender Kim Young-kwon and Hong Jeong-ho.
The Korea U-23 team already beat Jordan 4-0 at the Asian Games in November but hasn’t had much time to practice this time around because K-League players only joined the team yesterday.
The second leg will be held in Amman, Jordan, on Thursday. The winner of the two-leg series will advance to the final round in September.
