Bautista is top All-Star vote-getter

NEW YORK - The starting lineups for the MLB All-Star Game will include four New York Yankees and three Milwaukee Brewers. Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez, Robinson Cano and Curtis Granderson of the Yankees were elected by fans in the American League. Ryan Braun, Prince Fielder and Rickie Weeks were chosen from Milwaukee to start for the NL team for the July 12 game in Phoenix. The results were released Sunday.

“It means the Milwaukee Brewers have arrived on the national scene,’’ Braun, the top NL vote-getter, said Sunday before the Central division co-leaders visited Minnesota.

Fielder and Weeks were among several players who overcame voting deficits in the final week. New York Mets shortstop Jose Reyes, Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Matt Kemp and Detroit Tigers catcher Alex Avila also rallied late to earn starting spots.

Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Jose Bautista, the reigning home run champion, drew a record 7.4 million votes. He became the first Blue Jays player elected to start since Carlos Delgado in 2003.

“People are recognizing that you’re doing well and for me it’s been in three different territories - the United States and Canada and the Dominican,’’ Bautista said, a day after he connected off Philadelphia Phillies ace Roy Halladay for his MLB-leading 26th home run. “I can’t even describe how good that feels.’’

The AL starting lineup will be Adrian Gonzalez at first base, Cano at second, Jeter at shortstop, Rodriguez at third, and Bautista, Josh Hamilton and Granderson in the outfield. Avila will be behind the plate and David Ortiz is the designated hitter.

The NL starters include Fielder at first, Weeks at second, Reyes at shortstop, Placido Polanco at third, with Braun, Kemp and Lance Berkman in the outfield and Brian McCann catching. San Francisco manager Bruce Bochy will choose the DH.

Injuries are sure to impact the final rosters - three-time NL MVP Albert Pujols was left off while recovering from a broken left wrist and Reyes is nursing a hamstring problem.

Once again, the league that wins will get home-field advantage in the World Series.

`홈런왕` 호세 바티스타(토론토 블루제이스)가 별들의 잔치로 불리는 미국프로야구(MLB) 82회 올스타전에서 역대 최다 득표를 획득하며 별 중의 별이 됐다.

메이저리그 공식 홈페이지인 `엠엘비닷컴`은 4일(이하 한국시간) 오는 13일 애리조나 다이아몬드백스 홈구장인 체이스 필드에서 열릴 2011시즌 올스타전 멤버를 공개했다.

이 중에서도 가장 관심을 모은 최다 득표상에는 지난해 아메리칸리그 홈런왕이자 올 시즌 리그 홈런 선두를 지키고 있는 바티스타가 745만 4753표를 획득했다. 이는 지난 1994년 켄 그리피 주니어가 획득한 606만 9688표를 100만표 이상 뛰어넘었다.

1위를 차지한 바티스타는 `엠엘비닷컴`과 인터뷰에서 "이 형언할 수 없을 만큼 기쁘다. 팬들께 너무나도 감사하다. 영역 밖의 많은 지지를 받았다"면서 고국인 도미니카공화국, 그리고 팀이 속한 캐나다팬들의 성원에 감사하며 "두 국가의 대표하는 또 다른 영예가 될 것이다"고 소감을 밝혔다.

지난해 54개로 폭풍 홈런을 몰아치며 처음으로 올스타에 뽑힌 바티스타는 올 시즌에도 4일 현재 77경기에서 27홈런을 기록하며 최고의 강타자로 자리매김하고 있다. 우투우타인 바티스타는 메이저리그 약팀으로 꼽히는 토론토의 중심타자로 맹활약 중이다.

한편 아메리칸리그 포지션별 올스타에는 포수 알렉스 아빌라(디트로이트 타이거스)1루수 애드리안 곤살레스(보스턴 레드삭스), 2루수 로빈슨 카노(뉴욕 양키스), 3루수 알렉스 로드리게스(뉴욕 양키스), 유격수 데릭 지터(뉴욕 양키스), 외야수 비티스타를 포함 커티스 그랜더슨(뉴욕 양키스), 조시 해밀턴(텍사스 레인저스), 지명타자 데이비드 오티스(보스턴 레드삭스)가 선정됐다. 양키스 선수가 무려 4명이나 되며, 로드리게스는 14번째 올스타에 선정되면서 이반 로드리게스(위싱턴 내셔널스)와 역대 타이를 이뤘다.

내셔널리그에서는 부동의 올스타 후보인 알버트 푸홀스가 왼 팔 부상으로 빠지면서 프린스 필더(밀워키 브루어스)가 1루 자리를 차지했고, 그 외에 2루수 리키 윅스(밀워키 브루어스), 3루수 플라시도 플랑코(필라델피아 필리스), 유격수 호세 레이예스(뉴욕 메츠), 외야스 라이언 브론(밀워키 브루어스), 랜스 버크만(세인트루이스 카디널스), 맷 켐프(LA 다저스)가 뽑혔다. 포수 마스크는 지난해에 올스타전 MVP인 브라이언 맥캔(애틀랜타 브레이브스)가 쓴다.

한편 내셔널리그 최다 득표는 밀워키 외야 라이언 브런이 기록했다.
