‘꿈꾸는 쪽방’
다락은 부엌 위에 이층을 만들어 물건을 두는 곳이다. 확장된 개념이 다락방이다. 그래도 여기는 좀 낫다. 밖으로 난 창이 있다. 소설 <소공녀> 에서 하녀로 전락한 주인공 사라의 다락방. 창문은 행복한 꿈이 실제로 이뤄지는 통로다. 그래선지 소녀들은 유난히 다락방을 좋아한다. 노래도 있다. “우리 집 제일 높은 곳, 조그만 다락방. 난 그곳이 좋아요.” 그 바람에 다락방을 낸 아파트가 유행이고, 다락방 인테리어도 성업이다.내가 한 영작

이지성씨는 저서 <꿈꾸는 다락방> 에서 ‘R=VD’란 공식을 주장했다. 생생하게(Vivid) 꿈꾸면(Dream) 현실화(Realization)한다는 것이다. 등록금 장사에 혈안이 된 대학들이 그대들을 쪽방으로 내몰았어도 꿈마저 쪼가리일 수는 없지 않은가. 드넓은 쪽방의 꿈, 하늘 높은 다락방의 꿈을 위하여.

ⓑ The colleges and universities → universities college는 전공분야가 소수로 특화되어 있는 대학을 뜻하고 university는 여러 단과 대학으로 구성되어 있음, 우리나라 대학은 거의 university임, 내용상 둘을 구별해서 명시할 필요는 없으므로 통칭으로 universities 사용
ⓒ tuition fees → tuition ø tution이 등록금이므로 fees는 생략
ⓓ and pushed → pushing 내용상 과거 시제는 적절치 않고 구조적으로도 앞에 현재형 may charge가 쓰였음, 현재시제로 고쳐도 문법적으로는 맞겠지만 동시성을 표현하는 분사구문이 적절
