Actress reveals airplane incident that got her to give up smoking for good

Veteran actress Kim Su-mi appeared on television yesterday and revealed the reason she quit smoking after having been a smoker for more than 40 years.

“I was on a plane in the first class section and went to the bathroom to smoke in secret,” she told the hosts of SBS’s “Good Morning” yesterday. “A man who was also riding in the first class section told the flight attendant on me. After that, I was so mortified that I had to quit.”

The 60-year-old film and television actress quit smoking nine months ago.

Upon being asked whether she had withdrawal symptoms after quitting, Kim said that it was hard to cut her 40-year-old habit instantly but that she now feels very light in the morning and less tired during the afternoon.

Kim rose to fame during the 1980s when she played the mother in the long-running TV drama “Country Diary.”
