United beats Chelsea to make it five in a row

The victory was another dominant display against a top rival by United, which has scored 21 goals in its first five league games of the season including an 8-2 rout against Arsenal.
With five straight victories, it’s United’s best start to a season since it won 10 straight in 1985, the year before Sir Alex Ferguson took over as manager.
“We thought the fixture list had given us a real test. We’re getting the tough ones early on, but you’ve got to have them sometime,’’ Ferguson said. “We’re enjoying our football, playing with great enthusiasm and threat. We could have scored six or seven. That threat is encouraging us all.’’
Nani was the main architect for United at Old Trafford on Sunday. After Chris Smalling scored his first goal for United in the eighth minute, beating the offside trap to head in Ashley Young’s free kick, Nani added one of his best. The Portugal winger controlled Jonny Evans’ diagonal pass and took on three defenders before launching a fierce strike from outside the area into the top of the net.
Nani then helped set up the third for Wayne Rooney to tap into an open net just before the break, with United looking close to unstoppable in its quest for a 20th league title
But Fernando Torres pulled one back just after halftime, displaying some of the delicate touches that seemed to desert him after transferring from Liverpool last season by chipping the ball over United goalkeeper David De Gea. However, the Spanish striker followed that up with one of the worst misses of his career toward the end, when he rounded De Gea only to shoot wide of the open net.
In between, Rooney had wasted a chance to put the game away for United by missing a penalty in the 57th minute. Nani was fouled in the area by Jose Bosingwa after hitting the bar and collecting the rebound himself, but Rooney slipped just as he took the penalty, with the ball deflecting off his left foot before going wide.
Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas said he was encouraged by Torres’ performance, despite the late blunder.
“You have an example of Rooney missing a penalty too, which is basically the same,’’ Villas-Boas said. “The worst things happen to the best strikers in the world and today it happened to both of them.’’
The win means United equaled a club record of 18 straight home league victories, set in 1904-5. It was the defending champion’s fifth straight victory to start the season and gave it the sole lead atop the standings after Manchester City drew 2-2 at Fulham.
“It was a fantastic, open match but we created our own problems for ourselves,’’ Ferguson said. “We gave the ball away in attacking areas and they kept counterattacking us.’’
The only drawback for United was that Javier Hernandez limped off in the second half after a tough challenge by Ashley Cole in the area.
“He’s very reckless at times, Ashley Cole,’’ Ferguson said. “He’s committed and at times being committed, you can go over the edge a bit and that was an example of that. It was a shocking challenge.’’

맨유, 첼시에 3-1 완승…박지성 결장
잉글랜드 프로축구 프리미어리그의 맨체스터 유나이티드(이하 맨유)가 '라이벌' 첼시를 꺾고 5연승 행진을 달렸지만 박지성에게는 출전기회가 돌아오지 않았다.
박지성은 19일 새벽(한국시간) 영국 맨체스터의 올드 트래퍼드에서 열린 첼시와의 2011-2012 5라운드 홈 경기에서 교체선수 명단에 이름을 올렸지만 끝내 그라운드를 밟지 못했다.
박지성은 지난 15일 벤피카(포르투갈)와의 2011-2012 유럽축구연맹(UEFA) 챔피언스리그 조별리그 C조 1차전에서 풀타임 출전했지만 정규리그에서는 지난 11일 볼턴전에 이어 두 경기 연속으로 결장했다.
박지성의 자리인 왼쪽 미드필더로는 '이적생' 애슐리 영이 선발 출전해 90분 동안 공수에서 활약했고, 프리킥 때 키커로 나서 도움도 하나 올렸다.
맨유는 강력한 라이벌 첼시를 상대로도 올 시즌 초반부터 보여주고 있는 폭발적인 공격력을 뽐내며 전반에만 세 골을 몰아쳐 3-1로 이겼다.
맨유는 전반 8분 영이 페널티지역 왼쪽 외곽에서 올린 프리킥 크로스를 수비수 크리스 스몰링이 머리로 받아 선제골을 터뜨렸다.
전반 37분에는 나니가 페널티지역 외곽에서 밀집한 상대 수비수 네 명의 견제를 뚫고 날린 중거리슛이 골키퍼가 손을 쓸 틈도 없이 골망에 꽂혀 결승골이 됐다.
맨유는 골잡이 웨인 루니가 전반 45분 골문 앞 혼전에서 흘러나온 볼을 재빨리 골문 안으로 차넣어 세 번째 골을 뽑았다.
첼시의 반격은 후반 휘슬이 울리자마자 시작됐다.
공격수 페르난도 토레스는 페널티지역에 침투해 니콜라 아넬카의 스루패스를 받아 골키퍼의 키를 살짝 넘기는 감각적인 슈팅으로 골을 터뜨렸다.
후반 시작 40초 만에 첼시가 승부수로 프랭크 램퍼드 대신 투입한 아넬카가 만들어낸 만회골이었다.
첼시는 여세를 몰아 전반보다 훨씬 활발한 공격에 나섰으나 맨유의 빠른 역습에 당황할 수밖에 없었다.
맨유는 후반 10분 역습에서 나니가 크로스바를 맞고 나온 중거리슛을 다시 때리러 들어가다가 수비수의 발에 걸려 넘어지면서 페널티킥을 얻었다.
그러나 키커로 나선 루니가 슈팅을 하려다 미끄러지면서 허공에 볼을 날리고 말았다.
루니는 후반 31분에도 파트리스 에브라의 크로스를 논스톱 슈팅했으나 볼이 골대를 맞고 나오는 등 운이 따르지 않았다.
맨유는 후반 17분에 안토니오 발렌시아와 마이클 캐릭을 투입하고 후반 35분 디미타르 베르바토프를 그라운드에 넣으면서 교체 카드를 모두 소진해 박지성의 출전은 결국 무산됐다.
맨유는 올 시즌 5전 전승으로 선두를 굳게 지켰고 첼시는 올 시즌 첫 패배를 당했다.
더불어 팬들의 시선을 모은 '백전노장' 알렉스 퍼거슨 맨유 감독과 새로 첼시의 지휘봉을 잡은 '젊은피 사령탑' 안드레 비야스 보아스 감독의 첫 맞대결은 백전노장의 한판승으로 막을 내렸다.
