Park ahead of Na in Seoul mayor race, poll shows
The survey Saturday questioned 1,001 adults in Seoul through random dialing and asked which candidate they would vote for if Park and Na were the only candidates in the race. Park got 45.8 percent points, beating Na’s 37.0 percent. The poll’s margin of error was plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.
Park’s strength rose significantly from a similar poll on Sept. 3, in which Na edged him out 41.2 percent to 28.9 percent.
According to the survey, 79 percent of respondents supporting the opposition Democratic Party said they will vote in the Oct. 26 by-election, while only 68 percent of GNP supporters said they would.
Among people who identified themselves as supporters of former mayor Oh Se-hoon, a GNP member who quit after being defeated in a city referendum on free school lunches, only 58 percent said they would vote.
The poll showed that Park has a lot of support from people in their 20s, 30s and 40s. Among respondents in their 30s, 61.7 percent said they supported Park, and only 22.3 percent choose Na.
But older respondents preferred Na. Of respondents in their 50s, 44.9 percent were for Na compared to 40.2 percent for Park. Of respondents in their 60s, 49.2 percent supported Na and 21.7 percent said they would vote for Park.
In terms of vocations, about half of university students, blue- and white-collar workers and businessmen supported Park. Among the poll’s five vocation categories, only housewives preferred Na to Park.
On a regional basis, 44 percent of the respondents in Gangnam - the southern region of Seoul that includes the wealthy districts of Seocho, Gangnam and Songpa - backed Park, with 38.5 percentile supporting Na. North of the river, 47.8 percentile backed Park, while 35.4 percentile supported Na.
However, when respondents were asked to select among eight possible ruling and opposition candidates, Park and Na were at the top with neck-and-neck scores of 25.8 and 25.6 percent, respectively.
All respondents were asked whom they wanted to run on the GNP ticket, and 43 percent selected Na, who outdistanced former Minister of Government Legislation Lee Seog-yeon, who got only 17.1 percent.
Among the respondents who supported the GNP, 68 percent said they would vote for Na if she is selected as the GNP candidate. However, if Lee runs, only 38.7 percent of the GNP supporters said they would vote for him. For the DP, 46.0 percent said they want Park to run. Four other potential DP candidates got less than 10 percent support.

박원순, 강남벨트서도 나경원에게 12%P 앞섰다

서울시장 보궐선거에서 야권 통합 후보로 거론되고 있는 박원순 변호사가 한나라당 후보로 유력한 나경원 최고위원을 다소 앞서고 있는 것으로 조사됐다. 범여권 후보로 출마하고 싶다는 의사를 밝힌 이석연 전 법제처장의 지지세는 약했다.
중앙일보가 17일 한국갤럽에 의뢰해 서울시민 1001명을 대상으로 실시한 여론조사 결과에 따르면 나 최고위원이 한나라당 후보, 박 변호사가 야권 통합 후보로 나서 양자대결을 벌일 경우의 지지율은 박 변호사 45.8%, 나 최고위원 37.0%다.
박 변호사는 한나라당 강세 지역인 강남 벨트(강남·서초·송파·강동)에서도 47.5%의 지지율을 기록, 이곳에서 35.5%에 그친 나 최고위원을 앞섰다. 두 사람에 대한 강남 벨트의 지지율은 강북 지역의 지지율과 비슷했다. 강북권의 지지율은 박 변호사 47.8%, 나 최고위원 35.4%다.
박 변호사는 자영업자·근로자·학생층에서 50%가량의 고른 지지를 확보하는 걸로 조사됐다. 그러나 주부층에선 나 최고위원(41.7%)이 박 변호사(37.5%)를 약간 앞섰다. 박 변호사는 20~40대에서, 나 최고위원은 60대 이상에서 강세를 나타냈다.
나 최고위원은 가상 대결 전체 지지율에선 박 변호사에게 뒤진 걸로 나왔지만, ‘투표 확실층’에선 44.8%(박) 대 43.1%(나)로 지지율 차이를 확 좁혔다.
서울시장 출마 의사를 표명한 8명 후보들에 대한 전체 지지율 조사에서는 박 변호사와 나 최고위원의 지지율이 거의 같은 걸로 나왔다.
박 변호사는 25.8%, 나 최고위원은 25.6%로 오차범위 내에서 각각 1, 2위를 기록했다. 3~5위는 추미애 민주당 의원(4.1%), 박영선 민주당 의원(3.2%), 천정배 민주당 최고위원(2.3%) 순이었다. 7~8위는 김충환 한나라당 의원(1.0%), 신계륜 전 민주당 의원(0.6%)이었다. 지지 후보를 밝히지 않은 ‘모름·무응답’ 비율은 34.3%로 나타났다.
반면 이석연 전 법제처장의 경쟁력은 아직 강하지 않은 걸로 조사됐다. 전체 후보군 중 그가 받은 지지율은 1.8%로 6위였고, 박 변호사와의 일대일 가상대결에선 박 변호사의 지지율(53.2%)에 크게 못 미친 18.7%의 지지를 받았다.
이번 조사의 표본은 성·연령·지역별 인구비례에 따른 할당추출법으로 선정했고, 전화번호부 비등재가구까지 포함하기 위해 RDD(Random Digit Dialing·임의번호 걸기) 방식을 이용해 전화로 면접했다. 최대 허용 오차범위는 95% 신뢰수준에서 ±3.1%포인트, 응답률은 16.3%다.
