This is the only golf tournament in the KPGA that relies on a match play format to determine the winner. A total of 32 golfers will vie for the winner’s prize of 100 million won ($84,700) on the par-72, 6966-yard golf course, which wraps up Sunday.
Out of the running are last year’s champion Kang Kyung-nam, and runner-up Park No-seok, while 2009 prize money winner Bae Sang-moon is also out of contention.
This puts Kim Dae-hyun, last year’s best money earner, and Park Sang-hyun, Hong Soon-sang and Choi Ho-sung among the top prospects.
Park and Hong tee off today while Kim faces an easier opponent in Yang Ji-ho.
