Joo prefers to avoid media glare
The entertainment management company quoted Joo as saying in a press release yesterday that “I don’t think I’m ready to come back to the entertainment scene yet to host the radio program ‘Music Show at 2 P.M.’ [on MBC].”
“I need more time to prepare for my comeback,” he added.
MBC announced on Sept. 27 that Joo would replace singer-songwriter Yoon Do-hyun on the radio show.
The announcement attracted attention from media and fans of Joo, who was one of the most famous TV hosts back in the ’90s.
He kept a low profile after he was involved in a controversial case of sexual violence in 2000, when a college student in her 20s accused him of sexually assaulting her in his car. He was found guilty and sentenced to two and half years imprisonment with a stay of execution for four years.
But the court of appeals overturned the ruling and found him not guilty in July 2003. He later successfully sued the student and several journalists for defamation.

“행복한 방송 어렵다” 포기
개그맨 주병진(52)이 MBC 라디오 FM4U ‘두 시의 데이트’로 방송에 복귀하지 않겠다고 29일 밝혔다. MBC는 주병진이 이 프로그램으로 12년 만에 방송에 돌아온다고 27일 발표했었다.
주병진은 이날 연예기획사 코엔을 통해 “이 상태로는 행복한 방송을 하기 어렵다고 판단이 돼 ‘두 시의 데이트’ 진행에 대한 욕심이 없음을 방송사에 명확히 전달했다”고 말했다. 또 “앞으로 저의 방송 활동을 원하시는 여러분에게 좀 더 완벽한 모습으로 인사드릴 수 있도록 최선을 다해 준비할 것”이라고 했다.
주병진은 다음 달부터 윤도현에 이어 ‘두 시의 데이트’를 진행할 예정이었다. MBC는 청취율 부진을 들어 윤도현의 하차를 결정했다. 하지만 윤도현의 소속사측에서 ‘달면 삼키고 쓰면 뱉는다’며 공개적으로 불만을 표해 논란이 일었다. 이에 주병진은 “저도 인지하지 못한 사실이 드러나는 상황이 당황스럽다”고 밝혔다. 윤도현은 다음달 2일까지 ‘두 시의 데이트’를 진행한다. 3일부터는 방송인 주영훈이 임시 진행자로 나선다.
