Actress Kang to judge film festival
Along with the actress, four other prominent film industry names, including Japanese director Isshin Inudo, chief director of the festival Seigo Tono, director of Guanajuato International Film Festival Sara Hoch and director Kim Tae-yong, have been selected as judges this year, according to the festival organizers.
The judges will watch all 60 short films, from 35 different countries, in the competition during the festival, held from Nov. 2 to 7. During the closing ceremony, 10 short films from various categories in the competition will be awarded prizes totaling 59 million won ($49,393).
Festival organizers expect Kang’s experience as an actress as well as a judge in numerous international film festivals, including the Busan International Film Festival, Montreal World Film Festival, Moscow International Film Festival and Tokyo International Film Festival, will help her to evaluate with a professional, impartial eye.
Meanwhile Kang responded through the local media by saying that she is very glad that she has been chosen as a judge and that she will be able to see up-and-coming short films, a genre she believes is the future of cinema.
The Asiana International Short Film Festival, now in its ninth year, will be held in November at Cinecube in Gwanghwamun, northern Seoul.

강수연, 심사위원장으로 세계영화 만나다
영화배우 강수연(45)이 11월2일 서울 신문로 씨네큐브 광화문에서 개막하는 제9회 아시아나국제단편영화제 경쟁부문 심사위원장이 됐다.
강수연은 “아시아나국제단편영화제를 통해 영화의 미래인 전세계의 단편영화들을 만나게 돼 굉장히 기쁘다. 최선을 다해 심사하겠다”고 밝혔다.
강수연은 이누도 이신(51) 감독, 도노 세이고 쇼트쇼츠 필름페스티벌&아시아 집행위원장, 사라 호시 델롱 멕시코 과나화토 국제영화제 집행위원장, 김태용(42) 감독 등 국내외 영화인 4명과 함께 심사할 예정이다.
이누도 감독은 ‘조제, 호랑이 그리고 물고기들’과 영화 ‘터치’로 이름을 알렸다. 2012년 개봉 예정인 ‘노보우의 성’을 포함해 다양한 영화 작업을 진행 중이다.
도노는 1998년부터 2000년까지 오사카 유럽영화제 집행위원을 거쳤으며 2003년부터 쇼트쇼츠 필름페스티벌&아시아의 집행위원장을 맡고 있다.
델롱도 심사위원으로서 올해 처음 아시아나국제단편영화제와 인연을 맺는다. 로스앤젤레스 인도영화제, 러시아 블라디보스톡 국제영화제, 스페인 우에스카 영화제, 호주 플리커 페스트 국제단편영화제 등에서 심사위원으로 활약해왔다.
영화 ‘만추’로 캐나다 토론토 국제영화제, 스위스 프리부르 국제영화제, 독일 베를린 국제영화제, 부산 국제영화제 등 국내외 영화제에서 호평을 받은 김태용 감독은 영화 ‘여고괴담 2’로 데뷔해 ‘가족의 탄생’, ‘시선 1318’ 등을 연출했다.
이들 심사위원은 영화제 기간 35개국 60편의 경쟁부문 출품작을 모두 감상한 후 7일 폐막식에서 10개 부문(총상금 5900만원) 수상작들을 발표한다.
