Jung scores first goal of season in Nancy loss

Korean footballer Jung Jo-gook scored his first goal of the season in the French Ligue 1 competition, but couldn’t rescue his club AS Nancy from defeat against Olympique Lyon on Saturday.

At the State de Gerland, Jung entered the game in the 78th minute and scored a consolidation goal for Nancy in the 88th minute with his powerful right foot from 20-meter line, but couldn’t turn around the score table against the third-place Lyon which already had three goals in the first half of the game.

With the 3-1 defeat, AS Nancy sits last place among 20 teams. The team hasn’t collected a single win in the last 10 games.

But for Jung, it was a meaningful goal since it was his debut goal of the season and also the first goal for his new club AS Nancy. The 27-year-old striker moved from AJ Auxerre to Nancy on Sept. 16 in a loan deal which will keep him until June next year.

It was expected that Jung will get more playing time in Nancy since Jean Fernandez, who bought Jung last December while he was in charge of Auxerre, is currently managing the team.

Jung, who collected two goals in his 16 appearances with Auxerre last season, has appeared in four games in a row after his transfer to Nancy.
