Former Mayor Oh finally moves out

Former Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon cleaned out his official residence in Hyehwa-dong, Jongno District, central Seoul, on Friday and moved to an apartment in Jayang-dong, Gwangjin District, eastern Seoul, 48 days after he resigned following a failed referendum on free school lunches in city schools.

According to media reports, Oh wanted to vacate the official residence, where he has lived for five years and three months, as soon as he resigned in August but could not find a place because of skyrocketing jeonse (key money) prices. Oh finally got a place in Jayang-dong for himself, his wife, two daughters and his parents for a jeonse deposit of about 800 million won ($690,000). Although he owns a home in southern Seoul, he is currently leasing it.

A source close to Oh said the “former mayor has been spending time reading books and hiking” and added he is “considering going to the U.S. to study at Stanford University.”

Oh, who was trained as a lawyer, became the Seoul mayor in 2006 and was reelected in 2010 but stepped down from the post before the end of his term.
