Samsung loses U.S. market share

Samsung Electronics Co., the world’s largest flat-screen television maker, lost ground in the 3-D television market in the United States due mainly to increased competition, industry data showed yesterday.

Samsung Electronics’ market share stood at 49 percent in terms of 3-D TVs sold in the United States last month, falling below the 50-percent mark, according to data compiled by the U.S.-based market research firm NPD.

Its market share for 3-D televisions in the United States stood at 54 percent, 57 percent, 56 percent, respectively, in August, July and June, data showed.

In contrast, its rivals including LG Electronics Co. and Sony Corp. have seen increased market shares.
