Variety of the spice
Foreign tourists experience making huge pots of bibimbap, a traditional rice dish mixed with hot pepper paste, vegetables and beef marinated in soy sauce, at a festival in Sunchang Gochujang Village, north Jeolla, yesterday. Now in its sixth year, the festival took place for three days last week under the themes of tradition, taste and health. The Sunchang Gochujang Festival offers diverse programs including making bibimbap, a cooking contest using red pepper sauce and events introducing foreigners to Korea’s spicier dishes. It is the only festival in the country that uses traditional sauce as a main theme. [YONHAP]
