Space for reflection

The photo “Neues Museum Berlin VIII” (2009) by renowned German photographer Candida Hofer is part of her solo show at the Kukje Galley in central Seoul until Dec. 25. The Neues Museum is housed in a mid-19th century building and Unesco World Heritage Site. The image is part of a larger series showing “the subtle effects and transformations that occur with the accumulation of time,” Kukje Gallery said. To create the series, Hofer took pictures of empty public spaces, such as libraries and opera houses to encourage viewers to meditate on the history and culture that permeates these quiet spaces.
