Following a preview of the show, netizens were abuzz with speculations about the illness his wife, Park Ji-yeon, was suffering from. On the cable-channel program aired on Dec. 20, Lee revealed details about his wife who he claimed was unwell. Lee and Park, who is 12 years his junior, married in 2008. The couple has two children.

Local media reported on Dec. 21 that Park’s health deteriorated after becoming pregnant with the couple’s second child. The spouse of the funny man contracted toxemia during the pregnancy and had to get a kidney transplant.

The television personality revealed that his second child was born prematurely at just 34 weeks. The child is currently receiving rehabilitation treatment for cerebral palsy, adding to the family’s grief.

Despite the hardship, the star said that his wife was “improving daily” and due to the love they share and the support around them the family is coping well.
