Coast Guard officer killed in crackdown on illegal fishing

서해의 한국측 배타적 경제수역에서 불법 조업 중인 중국어선을 단속하는 작전 과정에서 중국어부가 저항하면서 휘두른 흉기에 찔려 한국 해경특공대원 한 명이 사망했고 한 명이 부상당했다.
According to the Coast Guard’s West Regional Headquarters, Cpl. Lee Cheong-ho, 41, a member of a Coast Guard SWAT team, was stabbed by a Chinese sailor during an apprehension operation in waters about 85 kilometers (52.8 miles) off Socheong Island at 7:00 a.m.

해경 서부지역본부에 따르면, 오전 7시쯤 소청도 85 킬로미터 해역에서 체포작전 도중 해경 특공대원 이청호(41) 경사가 중국선원이 휘두른 흉기에 찔렸다.
Lee died while being rushed to Inha University Hospital in Incheon, the first casualty in the war against illegal Chinese fishing since 2008. Lee Nak-hoon, 34, a member of the SWAT team who interpreted in Chinese, was also stabbed in the stomach, but the hospital said the injury isn’t life-threatening.

이 경사는 인천 인하대병원으로 긴급 후송 도중에 사망했다. 중국어선 불법조업 단속 작전에서 2008년 이후 처음 발생한 사상자이다. 해경 특공대 중국어 통역요원 이낙훈(34)도 복부를 찔렸으나, 병원은 생명을 위협하는 부상은 아니라고 말했다.
The Coast Guard said it dispatched 10 SWAT team members after it detected two illegal Chinese ships and seized one after firing flares. The SWAT team jumped onto the vessel and arrested eight of the nine sailors on board, with the exception of the captain.

Lee Cheong-ho approached the wheelhouse with three other SWAT team members to take control of the ship and arrest the captain, who was barricaded within. He broke through the locked door with interpreter Lee.

이청호 경사는 배를 장악하고 선장을 체포하기 위해 다른 특공대원 3명과 함께 조타실로 향했다. 중국선장은 조타실 안에 장애물을 쌓아놓고 저항하고 있었다. 이 경사는 통역요원과 함께 잠긴 문을 부수고 들어갔다.
