Rumors abound of second season of ‘1 Night, 2 Days’

Rumors about a potential second season of “1 Night, 2 Days” resurfaced after the show won top prize at the KBS Entertainment Awards.

On Dec. 24, the variety show won the grand prize from KBS. Five cast members of the show received the award together, while founding member comedian Kang Ho-dong’s absence was noted. The entertainer quit the show in September when he was embroiled in a tax evasion scandal but was still mentioned in the acceptance speech.

When Kang left the show, the network was worried that ratings would suffer as Kang was one of the main characters of the show. Despite the comedian’s resignation, the show continued to perform well. There was no major dip in ratings.

“It’s due to our loyal supporters that the show performed so well and was able to win the grand prize,” KBS said.

As of yet, the official stance of the network is that there are no plans for a second season of the show. On Dec. 25, KBS told local media that, “This speculation of a second season has been persisting since September, but there is nothing set in stone about it from our side.”

Should a second run of the show take place, the program will have to recruit new members for the show, as three of the stars, Lee Seung-gi, Eun Ji-won and Lee Su-geun, have told the production crew that they will not be returning after the final show in February.
