Japanese fan club collects funds for the needy in Korea

Japanese fans of K-pop idol singer Jung Yunho decided to celebrate his birthday on Feb. 6 by making a donation of 22 million won ($19,616) to Gwangju Community Chest of Korea.

Jung Yunho Fan Blog Ring One, the singer’s official Japanese fan club, requested that the donation go toward students from low-income families that attend Imgok middle school and Kwangil high school, Jung’s alma maters, as well as to two orphanages in the Gwangju area.

This isn’t the first time that the fan club has made such a grand gesture in the name of the TVXQ member either. Last year the group raised 10 million won for the same charity and also purchased 2,000 TVXQ albums to give out to children housed at social welfare centers.

“We wanted to shower the children at welfare institutions with gifts to mark Yunho’s birthday. Last year one of the orphanages we made a donation to also made a donation towards victims of the Japanese earthquake. It was a touching gesture,” said the operator of Jung’s Japanese fan club.
