Jordan hires Lotte E&C to build power plant

Builder Lotte Engineering & Construction said yesterday it has clinched a $560 million contract to build Jordan’s largest power plant. The independent power producer (IPP) deal ordered by Jordan’s state-run power company calls for the design and construction of 38 16-megawatt diesel-fired generators in Almanaka, about 30 kilometers (18.6 miles) east of Amman. Under the plan, the first phase will be completed by July 2013, with the plant to produce 250 megawatts of electricity. This will be followed by a second stage that will push up power production to around 600 megawatts when completed in May 2014.
