STX in growing demand with order for eight new vessels

STX Offshore & Shipbuilding, a Korean shipbuilder, said yesterday that it has won a combined 683 billion won ($606.6 million) worth of orders to build eight vessels.

In a 447 billion won contract with Sovcomflot of Russia, STX Offshore will deliver two liquefied natural gas carriers by January 2015, the company said in a regulatory filing.

Under a separate deal worth 236 billion won with John Fredriksen Group, a Norwegian shipping firm, STX Offshore will build six tankers for a European customer by November 2013, it said.
