Gold and silver for the Expo
Published: 06 Mar. 2012, 21:04
Commemorative coins engraved with the official mascots and architectural features of the International Exposition Yeosu Korea 2012 are going on sale. The half-ounce gold coin, top left, shows the International Pavilion, the exhibition venue. The quarter-ounce gold coin, top right, shows the Big-O ferris wheel. The half-ounce silver coins, bottom, show different images depending on the angle thanks to latent image technology. The Expo’s organization committee said yesterday preorders for the coins will start from March 12, exactly two months before the Expo opens. This is the first time in a decade, since the 2002 Korea-Japan World Cup, that gold and silver commemorative coins are being issued. The complete six-piece set is worth 2.9 million won ($2,580).
