Kepco eyeing wind power projects in Mongolia

Softbank, Japan’s third-largest mobile-phone company, and Korea Electric Power Corp. may jointly invest in wind power projects in Mongolia.

The two companies and Mongolia’s Newcom Group, a cross-industry investment group, have agreed to develop clean energy in the country, Softbank President Masayoshi Son said at a Tokyo symposium yesterday.

The three companies are expected to form a strategic partnership next week, Bayanjargal Byambasaikhan, chief executive officer of Newcom, said on the sidelines of the event.

Newcom is developing a 50-megawatt wind farm 70 kilometers (43 miles) southeast of Ulaanbaatar.
