MB to hold up to 25 bilateral summits

President Lee Myung-bak is expected to hold up to 25 bilateral summits with foreign leaders on the sidelines of the Nuclear Security Summit set for later this month, an official said yesterday.

The March 26-27 summit will draw representatives from 58 countries and international organizations, including some 48 heads of state, such as U.S. President Barack Obama, Chinese President Hu Jintao and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.

Lee is expected to hold one-on-one summits with about 20-25 leaders, said Hahn Choong-hee, spokesman for the summit’s preparatory secretariat. Hahn declined to elaborate, but sources said the foreign leaders are expected to include Obama, Hu, Medvedev and Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda. “This is expected to be the biggest-ever set of bilateral summits,” the official said.

Topics for the summits are expected to include not only nuclear summit agenda items, but also bilateral issues. Yonhap
