GS Caltex takes new approach to child care

GS Caltex, the nation’s No. 1 oil refiner, has set a new model for day care centers in the country.
The refiner opened Ji Ye Seul - three Chinese characters meaning wise, pretty and sensible - a new day care center for its employees yesterday.
The company expects it to serve as a model for day care centers for children whose parents have to work.
Unlike centers at other companies, Ji Ye Seul is a renovated residential building located a five-minute walk from the GS Tower in Yeoksam-dong, southern Seoul.
The two-story center was built with eco-friendly wooden materials.
It is well lighted and has a small garden for outdoor activities.
“I will take care of Ji Ye Seul as part of efforts to make a good work environment in which our employees don’t need to worry about their children’s safety,” said Hur Dong-soo, chairman and CEO at GS Caltex.
Hur has been calling for more of a balance between work and life for his employees.
He believes that if employees are able to properly support their families, they will be good at their work.
