Samsung’s TVs and laptops market leaders in S. America

Samsung Electronics said yesterday its TVs and laptop computers became the top-selling brands in major Latin American countries last year.

Samsung took 28.7 percent of the flat-screen TV market in the region, along with a 28.2 percent share for liquid-crystal display TVs and 32.5 percent for light-emitting diode TVs.

In particular, Samsung became the top player in Brazil, which takes up 40 percent of the entire TV market in Latin America.

Its market share in the country was 28.5 percent for flat-screen TVs, 27.8 percent for LCD TVs and 31.5 percent for LED TVs.

Samsung’s laptop computers also registered explosive growth in the four markets with 1.44 million units sold last year, a 343 percent jump from 330,000 units in 2010.
