LG adds Silicon Valley to its archipelago of R?&?D centers

LG Group said yesterday it has opened a research and development center in Silicon Valley, California, joining similar R&D centers in Europe, Africa and Central Asia.

The North American center will have more than 20 researchers with expertise in the development of technologies related to cell phones, displays and batteries, LG said in a statement. “The North American R&D center will serve as a hub for LG subsidiaries that are to make inroads in the North American markets,” said Lee Hee-gook, who is in charge of technology development at the country’s fourth largest conglomerate. Lee hopes the new center will focus on Film-typed Patterned Retarder (FPR) 3D TVs, long-term evolution (LTE) smart phones and other technologies.
