Husband killed, dismembered wife for nagging

The elderly woman whose dismembered remains were found in garbage bags at an apartment complex in Gyeonggi was killed by her husband because she nagged him about his drinking.

The Siheung Police Precinct in Gyeonggi arrested a man surnamed Choi, 63, Monday evening after he admitted killing his 69-year-old wife Lee, dismembering the corpse and dumping the body parts at a public trash area at the Daewoo Prugio Apartment complex in Eunhaeng-dong, Gyeonggi.

“I strangled my wife to death in a fit of anger while I was intoxicated because she was nagging me too much about my drinking that night,” Choi told the police. “I dismembered her body to dump it secretly.”

At 8:02 a.m. Monday, Lee’s dismembered body, including her head, a pair of arms, legs, and other parts, were found in four black garbage bags by a 45-year-old garbage collector surnamed Shin in the trash dump at the complex.

Choi chose the location because he worked as a security guard at the apartment complex in 2009 and 2010. It is eight kilometers (4.97 miles) from his home, where the murder took place.

Police identified the victim by her fingerprints. They suspected Choi because he wasn’t taking phone calls and hadn’t reported his wife missing.
