Saenuri leadership election on May 15The emergency council of the ruling Saenuri Party yesterday decided to hold a party convention on May 15 to elect a new leadership.
The party convention will be held at Kintex in Ilsan, Gyeonggi, with 200,000 potential voters.
Kwon Young-se, secretary-general of the party, was appointed yesterday as chairman of the party convention preparation committee, which has 14 members and three departments under the committee. Kim Su-han, a standing adviser to the party, was also appointed as the chairman of the 11-member election management committee.
The party convention preparation committee convened for the first time yesterday at the party headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul, and decided to hold a clean, quiet and humble election to respect the will of the people.
Hong Ji-man, spokesman for the preparation committee, said in a briefing, “It is not the time to host a festival as the people watch us to see whether they will give us an opportunity. We will modestly and quietly hold the party convention.” Yonhap
