Harrods coming to Korea to look for best tech products

Officials of the U.K.-based department store Harrods will visit Korea next month to select the country’s most innovative new technology products to be showcased during the London Olympics this summer.

The Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (Kotra) said yesterday Guy Cheston, Harrods’ media sales director, will visit Seoul for a seminar and one-to-one meetings to select the country’s most high-tech brands on May 2. Approximately 10 small and medium-sized companies will be chosen to be showcased during the upcoming summer Olympics.

Successful candidates for the showcase will include LED lighting, virtual keyboards and robots. Samsung Electronics and Hyundai Motor Group will be participating in the event, displaying their latest products. “One of the participating brands last year succeeded in securing a contract to have its luxury fountain pens stocked by the famous store,” said G.Y. Chung, director general of Kotra London.
