Naggomsu, Na cleared of charges

Prosecutors dismissed charges against hosts of a popular podcast show and a former ruling party lawmaker, who both made accusations against each other.

The Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office Tuesday dropped charges against hosts of “Naneun Ggomsuda” (“I’m a Petty-Minded Creep”) and former Grand National Party (now the Saenuri Party) Representative Na Kyung-won.

During the Seoul mayoral by-election in October 2011, the popular talk show made a series of accusations against Na, including an accusation that she evaded a government audit on a private education foundation that her father owns. The show also claimed that Na’s husband allegedly asked a local prosecutor to indict a citizen that posted comments defaming her on the Internet.

Na also accused them of spreading false rumors and defaming her.

When it comes to the request-for-indictment allegation, the prosecution said although it’s true that Na’s husband had a phone conversation with the prosecutor about the citizen, it can’t confirm that he requested an indictment. Prosecutors withdrew other remaining charges against Na.

They also said that the show’s hosts didn’t deliberately try to circulate defamatory rumors.
