MLB slaps 100-game ban on Giants’ Mota

SAN FRANCISCO - Major League Baseball’s disciplinary officials slapped Guillermo Mota with a 100-game ban Monday after the San Francisco Giants player tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs.

Mota, who also was suspended for 50 games in 2006, became just the third American professional baseball player to be suspended two times for a failed drug test.

The former New York Met tested positive for clenbuterol, which is on the International Olympic Committee’s list of banned substances.

“The Giants are disappointed to learn of Guillermo Mota’s suspension,” the Giants said in a statement.

“We support Major League Baseball’s drug prevention and treatment program.”
