COEX Mall to get a major expansion by 2014The Korea International Trade Association said yesterday that it will renovate COEX Mall in a bid to transform the 12-year-old facility into a state-of-the-art shopping mall with a modern look.
A total of 180 billion won ($156 million) will be spent for a renovation that is scheduled to start at the end of this year and to be completed by November 2014.
KITA said renovation is unavoidable as subway line No. 9 is expected to open COEX station in 2014 and it needs to find ways to smartly link passenger paths of the new station with line No. 2’s Samseong station.
To minimize inconvenience of visitors and store owners, KITA will gradually renovate the facilities by dividing renovation into four parts.
When completed, COEX Mall will be 173,025 square meter of space from its current 152,116 square meters.
COEX Mall is located in Samseong-dong, southern Seoul. Its COEX Convention & Exhibition Center was used for hosting the G-20 Seoul Summit and Seoul Nuclear Security Summit.
