Jung Chan-sung takes down Poirier in UFC

Korean mixed martial arts fighter Jung Chan-sung finished off Dustin Poirier of the U.S. to claim his third straight victory in the Ultimate Fighting Championship on Tuesday, putting him on the fast track for a shot at the featherweight title.

A crowd of 4,592 gathered to watch the main event of “UFC on Fuel TV3” at the Patriot Center in Fairfax, Virginia. Jung won via submission over Poirier with 1 minute, 7 seconds left in the fourth round. His career MMA record is now 13-3, while the 23-year-old Poirier picked up a defeat for the first time in five UFC fights.

In the fourth round, Jung, who is better known by his nickname “Korean Zombie,” drove Poirier back to the fence with a right uppercut and a left hook and then landed a flying knee.

Poirier tried to fight back with a take-down, but the 25-year-old Korean grabbed his neck and rolled into a D’Arce choke to win the fight.

After the bout, Jung, who earned his fame in the UFC last December after knocking out Mark Hominick in just 7 seconds, called out current featherweight champion Jose Aldo of Brazil to be his next opponent.

However, since Aldo is scheduled to fight Erik Koch at UFC 149 on July 21, the matchup will not happen soon.
