[Letters] A people with no sense of history have no future
Recently, Japanese lawmakers visited the United States to complain about the monument that is set up to honor comfort women. They insisted the comfort women during World War II were not their fault, arguing that the monument should be destroyed because Japanese people in America would face discrimination because of that monument. Considering that the lawmakers represent the public opinion of Japan, I felt great anger. Also, I’m really concerned about Japan’s deceptive history distortion. Unlike Germany which bitterly regrets its historical fault, Japan still denies its war crime.sGiven the gravity of this problem, we should strengthen history education corresponding to Japan’s deception. We should remember the famous proverb - “a people with no sense of history have no future.”
