Fireproof cable can take the heat

LS Cable has developed fireproof cables for ships that can endure temperatures of up to 950 degrees Celsius, or 1,742 degrees Fahrenheit, for two hours. The company said yesterday its world-class fire-resistant cables will soon be available for ships and offshore facilities. In the event of a fire, the cables help activate emergency equipment including extinguishers. The cables can endure temperatures some 200 degrees Celsius higher than existing fireproof cables, the company said. They also work in water, and meet the stringent standards required by the International Engineering Consortium, as well as British and French standards.
