The Embassy of Ukraine in Korea held a reception in Seoul on June 8 on the occasion of the start of the 2012 European Football Championship. Ukraine is hosting the prestigious football tournament together with Poland.

Dozens of officials from the Korean government, and leading figures in the Korean business, academic and art communities attended the reception, held at the ambassador’s residence, along with the officials of the Embassy of Ukraine and the Embassy of Poland in Seoul, according to the Embassy of Ukraine.

At the reception, the Ambassador of Ukraine to Seoul, Vasyl Marmazov, called the hosting of the Euro 2012 a milestone for the development of the hosting countries. It is the first time for either of the two Eastern European countries to host the football tournament.

“Euro 2012 is a good opportunity to show Ukraine to the world, its rich tourist opportunities, outstanding cultural and historical heritage,” the ambassador said in a reception speech, according to the embassy.

The ambassador also expressed thanks to the Korean participants in the Euro 2012, including Hyundai Motor, Korea’s largest automaker and an official sponsor of the football event.

To celebrate Ukraine and Poland hosting the Euro 2012, students of the Ukrainian studies department at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies and Korean pianist Lee Bong-gi performed at the reception, the embassy said.
