Officials from the Ministry of Knowledge Economy and Seoul Metropolitan Government inspect stores in Myeongdong, central Seoul, yesterday to evaluate whether energy conservation measures are being followed. In order to save energy, the ministry has pushed for large buildings to keep indoor temperatures at 26 degrees Celsius (78 Fahrenheit) and also to keep doors and windows shut when the air conditioner is on between the months of June and September. Those caught violating the government’s energy conservation measures can be fined as much as 3 million won ($2,628). [YONHAP]
