[Letters] An old habit never dies, indeed

As the Korea JoongAng Daily editorial on July 12 pointed out, it was a bad start for the 19th National Assembly. Despite the new Assembly Speaker’s plea for a “restoration of public confidence,” lawmakers from both sides of the aisle vetoed an arrest motion for a Saenuri Party lawmaker Chung Doo-un, who was involved in a bribery scandal along with former lawmaker Lee Sang-deuk, elder brother of President Lee Myung-bak. The decision is a clear betrayal of the legislative vow to refresh its old image. Voters will watch closely to see if they resort to the same practice later.
