The Japanese chef who said he had cooked for late North Korean leader Kim Jong-il for 13 years, known by his pen name of Kenji Fujimoto, appeared at Beijing Capital International Airport yesterday on his way to Pyongyang, departing from Tokyo. He told Kyodo News at the airport that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has invited him to the North. The 65-year-old former personal sushi chef published his autobiography in 2003, titled “I Was Kim Jong-il’s Cook.” He said he defected from the regime in April 2001 by telling them a lie that he was buying raw materials for sushi in Hokkaido.
