BMW must replace car, not just speedometer

A Seoul court ruled yesterday that BMW Korea and a local dealer should replace a new car that had problems within a week of purchase.

The car was bought from BMW dealer Kolon Glotech for 62.4 million won ($55,408) in October 2010 and its speedometer stopped working five days later.

The dealer offered to replace the speedometer but refused to exchange the car for a new one, according to court officials.

“(BMW Korea and Kolon Glotech) are both liable for the replacement of the car as well as the ownership transfer for the customer,” Seoul High Court ruled.

The court said BMW Korea should also be held responsible along with the car dealer.
