Chinese buy 42M smartphones in Q2, up threefold on-yearChina’s smartphone sales nearly tripled in the second quarter from a year earlier due to strong demand, accounting for more than a quarter of overall global shipments, a market researcher said yesterday.
A total of 42 million smartphones were sold in the world’s second-largest economy in the April-June period, up 199 percent from a year earlier and 32 percent from three months earlier, according to Industry researcher Canalys Research.
China’s second-quarter figure accounted for 27 percent of the 158 million smartphones shipped worldwide during the three-month period.
