Rape of 7-year-old shocks nation
Police officers yesterday arrest Koh Jong-seok, a 25-year-old neighbor of the victim, suspected of kidnapping a sleeping 7-year-old girl from her home and brutally raping her, and take the suspect to Naju Police Precinct in Naju, South Jeolla, for further investigation. 목요일 새벽에 집에서 자고 있던 7세 여아를 납치해 잔인하게 성폭행한 사건이 전남 나주에서 발생했다. 경찰에 따르면, 용의자 고종석(25)은 피해자의 엄마와 아는 사이인 동네 이웃 아저씨이다.
The suspect and the victim's mother were playing computer games together at an Internet cafe shortly before the girl's abduction, police said. Koh was apprehended at a different Internet cafe in the nearby city of Suncheon at 1:20 p.m. yesterday.

여아를 납치하기 바로 직전에 용의자는 피해자의 엄마는 함께 PC방에서 컴퓨터 게임을 했다고 경찰이 말했다. 용의자 고씨는 어제 오후 1시20분 인근 도시 순천의 한 PC방에서 체포됐다.
He confessed to the rape during interrogation, police said, and said he was drunk and acted on an impulse. He had two prior convictions but no sex crime history. According to the doctors who treated the abducted girl, her colon was ruptured and a five-centimeter (two-inch) tear was found in her genitals.

경찰 심문에서 용의자 고씨는 성폭행 사실을 자백했고 술에 취해 순간적인 충동에 범행을 저질렀다고 경찰이 말했다. 용의자 고씨는 전과 2범이지만 성폭행 전과는 없다. 유괴됐던 여아를 치료했던 의사들에 따르면, 피해 여아의 결장이 파열됐고 생식기에 5센티미터 크기의 상처가 났다.
The 7-year-old girl was reported missing by her mother around 7:30 a.m. Thursday, according to police. The mother said the child had gone missing with a blanket while sleeping in the living room of the family's house.

경찰에 따르면 목요일 오전 7시30분쯤 여아의 엄마가 딸의 실종을 신고했다. 엄마는 집 거실에서 자고 있는 동안 이불과 함께 딸이 실종됐다고 말했다.
The police formed a search team and mobilized 160 troops to comb the neighborhood and downtown Naju. The search began at noon and the girl was found one hour later sleeping next to a road along the Yeongsan River, 130 meters (425 feet) from her home.

경찰은 병력 160명을 동원해 인근 지역과 나주 시내를 수색했다. 정오 무렵 수색이 시작됐고 한 시간쯤 후 집에서 130미터 떨어진 영산강변 도로 옆에서 자고 있는 여아를 발견했다.
The victim was naked, wrapped in the blanket from her home, with signs of having been raped. She was rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency surgery.
피해 여아는 벌거벗은 채로 집에서 없어졌던 이불에 싸여져 있었고 성폭행 당한 흔적이 있었다. 피해 여아는 인근 병원으로 바로 옮겨져 긴급 수술을 받았다.
