SK E&C gets mitts on world’s largest substation project

SK E&C said yesterday it has clinched a $380 million deal to modernize the world’s largest substations in Kuwait. Under the contract signed with the state-run Kuwait Oil Company, SK Engineering will either repair or build 62 substations that will provide electricity to 30 facilities that collect and transport oil in an oil field located about 35 kilometers (21.7 miles) southeast of Kuwait City.
The substations will be built across the area, which has a diameter of 40 kilometers, making them the world’s largest facilities, the Korean builder said. Construction is scheduled to be completed by September 2015, SK E&C said.
