Coolcat find a new sponsor in Hana Bank

With a month before the opening of the new season, the Coolcat of the Women’s Korean Basketball League has officially changed its name to KEB.Hana Bank.

The team is the successor of the Shinsegae Coolcat, which broke up in April after Shinsegae forfeited its sponsorship. Hana Bank took over the team from the WKBL.

The KEB.Hana Bank team will remain in Bucheon, Gyeonggi, and Coolcat assistant coach Cho Dong-kee will take the helm. The sponsor bank will find a new name for the team, but will use the “KEB.Hana Bank Women’s Basketball Team” as its interim name for the 2012-13 season, the team officials said.

With the new team, the WKBL now has all of Korea’s four major commercial banks as sponsors including KB, Shinhan and Woori. The Shinhan Bank S-Birds will seek a seventh straight title during the 2012-13 season, which starts on Oct. 12. The Coolcat finished last season in fifth.
